Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Line is Three-Year Old

Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line, which was launched on October 30, 2017, in cooperation with Turkey, Georgia, and Azerbaijan, is three-year old. Currently, freight is being transported via block trains to Georgia, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Russia and China over the BTK.

TCDD Transport offers various discounts while it provides more cargo transportation easier via domestically produced platform wagons over the BTK, as it does to Europe. Again, the procedure of the Organization, which reduces customs procedures from 24 hours to 10-15 minutes, called ‘Weighted Simplified Procedure’ is taken as an example by other countries. In addition, with the bogie change at BTK, freight can be transferred more easily and quickly without being transferred to wagons compatible with the infrastructure of the countries. A new North-South transport corridor is created by the Turkey-Russia railway transports started out of the BTK while the capacity of transports is planned to be increased to 3-5 million tonnes in the medium term.

First transit train from China to Europe over BTK

On the other hand, a block container train is running once weekly between China and Turkey over the BTK line which was integrated with the Central Corridor, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route and the first transit train for China-Europe transports are expected to reach our country in the first week of November. BTK railway line is expected to carry 3 million tons of cargo in the medium term and 6.5 million tons in the long term. Work is underway to carry out passenger transport on this line. Turkey, in a world where the center of the globalization of production has shifted to the Far East, is becoming an important international rail corridor with BTK and Central Corridor.
