THE GOAL OF DECREASING DIESEL ENGINES IN THE NEAR FUTURE IN THE AUTOMOBILE WORLD HAS MADE ELECTRIC ENGINES MORE POPULAR. GERMAN BRANDS THAT USED TO DISFAVOR THIS TECHNOLOGY ARE NOW COUNTING THE DAYS LEFT TO RELEASE THEIR POWERFUL MODELS THAT CAN TRAVEL 500 KM ON ONE CHARGE.
Even if the big enterprise regarding electric automobiles that has been awaited for the last 10 years hasn’t happened, almost all producing companies are maintaining the development of their vehicles in this sector. While some benefit from electric engines for economic or performance increasing purposes, others are making an effort to develop new technology. The biggest development in this area was the astronomic emission penalties that came last year for the diesel engine VW models in the American market. While many brands began disfavoring diesel engines, many countries in Europe are planning to ban the entry of diesel vehicles into cities in the near future and completely ban them afterwards. This development also changed the plans of German producers that have been shy of electric vehicles until now. Many German producers started introducing their new electric models.
600 KILOMETERS ON ONE CHARGE
Volkswagen realized the world premiere of their new completely electric concept vehicle I.D at the Paris Motor Show. The I.D that presents the future technology and design foresight of Volkswagen comes to the fore with its range of 600 kilometers and autonomous drive. Volkswagen’s electric concept automobile I.D has a range of up to 600 kilometers on one charge. Electric engine of the I.D with 0-emission generates 170 HP. The brand plans to use the technologies they used in this concept in mass produced models as well in the near future.
A FIRST IN SKODA HISTORY
The Vision E, which will be the first electric concept vehicle of the Czech producer Skoda with a history of more than 120 years, has an easy charge technology and low consumption. The automobile, which uses two electric engines together, has a total power of 225 KW. The Vision E, which has a top speed of 180 km/h, has a range of 500km on just one charge thanks to its powerful batteries. The vision E, which offers a wide interior volume with its long wheelbase, brings together the high sitting position of SUV style vehicles and the dynamic lines of coupe automobiles together. Skoda is preparing to send 5 completely electric vehicles on to the roads by 2025.
CHARGE 4 MINUTES, TRAVEL 100 KM
The super sports car producer Porsche is also after electric models. The German producer is opening new horizons with its new electric vehicle Mission E. The Mission E provides 100km of range to its users after being charged for only 4 minutes. If its batteries are completely charged, the automobile’s range exceeds 500 km. Thanks to its engines that generate more than 600 HP, the automobile can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.5 seconds, while reaching 250 km/h in 12 seconds. The top speed of the vehicle was capped at 250 km/h. The German brand also announced that they have made 1 million Euros worth of investment in Germany to make a new factory to mass produce this model.
AFTER NEW TECHNOLOGIES
One of the other German brands that are interested in electric technologies is Audi. The Audi E-tron Sportback, which is a combination of sports cars and SUVs, can travel 500 kilometers on one charge. The E-tron Sportback, which has an exciting design, has small cameras instead of side mirrors. Thanks to this technology which lowers air friction and the sound of the wind, the blind spot problem of side mirrors that we are used to has been completely removed. The sedan gets its power from its 320 KW electric engine. The lines of the automobile bring forth a striking architecture that is designed especially for this technology and electric automobile concept by combining the classic Audi lines and a series of innovative details together.
