Nur Fettahoğlu who has begun her career as a stock market speaker continues to climb as an actor. The beautiful actor whom we first met in the TV drama series Gönül Salıncağı caught the success in another drama series named Aşk-ı Memnu and carried it to its summit through playing a character named Mahidevran in Muhteşem Yüzyıl, a historical TV series. This season she is on TV again, playing a character named Süreyya in Filinta, and she has been drawing attention thanks to her beauty and grace. Learning one thing about her surprised us, though. She had received fashion design education. The beautiful actor who dazzled us in a piece from Tuvana Büyükçınar’s collection called Golden Bazaar said, “I feel incomplete, if I don’t perform my profession.”
When did you decide to become an actor?
Becoming an actor was something that I’ve wanted since my childhood. I used to act in plays and similar type of activities. I’ve followed my dreams and finally I am embracing them.
If we are to talk about your acting career, how did you improve yourself, how did you become experienced at this profession?
I had received drama education before I began my acting career because it was my childhood dream. Later, I got an offer through my agency and I took the first step by means of Gönül Salıncağı. I observed my own feelings and reactions during my daily chats and interactions with people; I watched TV series and movies with a critical approach as well as drama workshops. They are all improving me. Sometimes, even a comment made by someone I met down the street might support my acting.
You studied fashion design. Do you have any targets to reach related to fashion design or are you just a follower?
In fact, I cannot say that I am a fashion follower. I might consider creating my own collection someday; however, today, I think it is still early for that since acting is my priority.
What did you learn from Muhteşem Yüzyıl and Mahidevran character?
Muhteşem Yüzyıl was a great journey. I have made great friends that are so precious to me thanks to this series.
Filinta continues, can we talk about the character you play in there?
Süreyya is someone who has been raised to take revenge someday and for that reason, she has taken all risks to face her enemy. She has mood swings and she doesn’t show her emotional side; however, enters Ali and so Süreyya’s frailties. So, she plays into her enemy’s hand.
Is there any character that you’d like to play?
As an actor, I always want to play different characters that are going to improve me. Not only the description of the character but also how the subject is treated and what type of team materializes it are also important points.
Is there any TV series that you watch regularly?
Yes, of course. I mostly watch foreign TV series. I cannot give up on Game of Thrones and True Detective. I just began to follow Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norell and Sense 8.
Are there any foreign directors that you like their works?
Almodovar, Stanley Kubrick, Martin Scorsese, Alejandro G. Inaruttu…
You are wearing a piece from Tuvana Büyükçınar’s Golden Bazaar collection. How do you like it on you?
I cannot tell that I find much time to go to many fashion shows but I’ve never missed Tuvana’s fashion shows. She always goes with a different concept each time and appeals to every women. This makes me curious. Golden Bazaar show was Tuvana’s dream and she planned every fine detail. She was so careful. As a result, she made the show mesmerizing. Every piece of it has a different story.
What does costume means to an actor?
A costume for an actor is the most important part of the character. If the costume is in conflict with the character or if something is missing then a piece of the puzzle would remain amiss and that would bother the viewers. No matter how much effort we put into acting, the viewers would sense it.
Would you like to design costumes for a character you play?
Yes, I would love that. However, costume designers already leave it to us at some point after they evaluate how the costume captures the actor’s spirit. So, even though I don’t design, I contribute through my ideas. This gives me pleasure.
You used to play cello and piano, would you like to show your talents through a character that you play?
Our job requires playing what the character is supposed to do. If playing a character means that I need to play an instrument that I have never played before, I would like to learn it. The possibility of my hobbies contributing to my job excites me as well as the opportunities that are made available to me thanks to my job.
What does acting mean to you today?
As I always tell, acting is indispensible for me, if I don’t perform my profession, I feel incomplete.
