Food Group President of the Esas Holding Babür Çelebi stores energy by making time for his hobbies no matter how busy his business schedule is. He gets rid of stress through reading books, listening to jazz music, and having long walks with his dog Vodka at his home in Ömerli. Expressing his great passion for jazz music, Çelebi follows the concerts of important jazz musicians in and out of country.
Babür Çelebi, who had worked as a senior executive at big corporations such as Evyap, Ülker, and Doğan Online until today, now advances through investing in the team spirit within the structure of the Esas Holding as their Food Group President. Babür Çelebi completed his undergraduate degree in the Department of Business Management at Georgia State University in 1980 and he completed his MBA degree there at the same university. He started his career in the USA in 1982. Babür Çelebi relates the secret of success in business to the synergy within the team: “Every job done is a team job. You cannot do anything by yourself. Be honest, tell the truth, and do not stab anyone from the back. Work a lot and do not ever give up. Do not forget that what goes up must come down.” He is disciplined and has a result-oriented business vision. Being mislead within the chain of command is one thing that upsets him in business life. Çelebi emphasizes that he goes to bed early on Sundays to wake up energetic the next morning for the new workweek. Although he works around the clock, he still makes time for his hobbies. He is a huge fan of jazz music and he owns thousands of CDs and records. He says that his passion for jazz started in 1976, when he went to the USA to study.
He follows jazz concerts closely
Serving as the Food Group President for the Esas Holding since 2011, Babür Çelebi says that Professor Deniz Gökçe has been a big support to him. Çelebi says, “My mentor in this subject is Prof. Deniz Gökçe. I continue my music adventure, which began with records in the past, with CDs and DVDs now. I have invested in high-end brands within my budget to be able to listen to jazz in the best possible quality. My collection includes over thousand records and two thousand CDs, and more than seventy thousand songs. I am careful not to miss the concerts of important jazz musicians who come in Turkey. When I have to attend business meetings out of country, I look up for jazz concerts that are held in whichever the city I will be in advance.” Miles Davis, Steve Tyrell, Jachinta, Billie Holiday, Patricia Barber, and Toshiko Akiyoshi are among the jazz musicians that he likes to listen. Çelebi expresses that his biggest inspiration is his curiosity and if he loses his curiosity, the life would become seriously harder to live for him. Çelebi who follows ‘new media’ besides jazz music gives lectures at universities as a hobby when he finds the opportunity.
He takes walks with his dog Vodka
Following a long workday, Babür Çelebi can make it to home at 8 pm the earliest. He says, “After having dinner at my home in Ömerli, I take a walk with my dog Vodka. It doesn’t matter how tired I am, if I am home, I like to watch TV series that I find amusing. For instance, I might watch series such as Entourage and How I Met Your Mother over and over again. I listen to music of course.” Babür Çelebi who loves reading states that he likes to share his experiences with young people as well as adding the utmost value to his country and to the company that he works. Çelebi draws attention to the book titled ‘Competitive Strategy’ written by Michael E. Porter. He finds it highly beneficial to the business world. His favorite movie is ‘Groundhog Day.’ He likes Ralph Lauren designs. He prefers Tod’s when it comes to footwear. He loves to eat at Changa in İstanbul. His favorite place for brunching is Radisson Blu Ortaköy. He likes vacationing in Italy, California, and Bodrum. His cell phone, his portable modem, and chocolate wafers are the indispensable items in his bag.
