ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY IS IN USE AT MARMARAY FOR PASSENGER SAFETY.
Marmaray that is among the most important projects of Turkey and the world draws the attention by its high level of safety systems.
Marmaray, which links Europe with Asia under the sea, passes through the immersed tubes on the seabed beneath the İstanbul Strait. High capacity pumps take over in case of emergency at the tunnel. If there are any trains left in the tunnel, they get to be directed to the nearest station. At the same time, waterproof protective caps step in to ensure the safety of the tunnel.
Ready for every kind of scenario
Marmaray has fire, dust, and smoke detecting systems as well as smart extinguishing systems installed along all the stations and the rail lines. The emergency lighting, inside the tunnel, automatically takes over in case of emergency. Secure evacuation paths, 140 cm wide, have been constructed along the tunnel for the safe removal of passengers. The passengers get to be directed to the nearest emergency exit, which is built out of fireproof materials, located every 150 m to walk to the other tunnel. The smoke inside the tunnel gets to be cleared by the help of the world’s biggest tunnel ventilation fans.
