Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan participated in the ongoing test drives of Gebze-Halkalı İstanbul Suburban Line which is 76.6 kilometers long and includes 43 stations.
In his statement, Turhan stated that the project, which includes Marmaray, will be integrated with metro lines, high-speed train lines, and freight train lines. Turhan said, “We put a section of 13.6 kilometers, which includes Marmaray, into service before. Now we are about to complete the renovation work of 63 kilometers, including 19.2 kilometers in Europe and 43.8 kilometers in Anatolia.”
“It will be connected with 16 metro trains and trams between 13 stations”
Turhan expressed that they had built the Gebze-Halkalı section of the railway as in 3 lines, and the strait crossing section as in 2 lines and said that the suburban line operation will be done on 2 lines integrated with Marmaray within the city. Having stated that high-speed trains can be stopped in Gebze, Pendik, Maltepe, Bostancı, Söğütlüçeşme, Haydarpaşa, Bakırköy and Halkalı, Turhan said that YHT would reach from Konya to Söğütlüçeşme in 4 hours 45 minutes; from Konya to Halkalı in 5 hours and 15 minutes; from Ankara to Söğütlüçeşme in 4 hours 30 minutes and to Halkalı in 5 hours.
“We will get it ready for service in the first week of March”
Turhan said that they were continuing their architectural finishing works at the stations at the point of commissioning suburban and high-speed train lines and that they started testing and commissioning works. Turhan said, “We will try to make the line ready signalized and certified for opening in the first week of March by running 24 hour-based SAT4 and trial run tests.”
