STRESS REDUCING FOODS

SOME OF THE FOODS THAT WE KEEP AT OUR FINTERTIPS ARE HIGHLY EFFECTIVE AT REDUCING STRESS.

Stress becomes an inevitable end when the rush of urban life is added to the difficulties of business life. However, managing stress is not as hard as we think. It is possible to manage your stress through consuming foods that make it easier.

Dietitian-Life Coach Gizem Şeber lists the foods that support stress management:

BARLEY:  This grain that doesn’t take much place in our daily meals is rich in vitamin B. It becomes digested slowly and balances blood sugar for longer periods than others do. Its consumption is suggested especially at lunch and dinner. We can include barley in our daily meals by using it in soups and stews.

HOT PEPPER: It is among the foods that should be included in our daily meals the most. Hot peppers contain a pigment called capsaicin, which accelerates the metabolism and heats the body. It also accelerates the release of endorphin, the happiness hormone. You can add fresh hot peppers into soups, stews, and sautés or use hot pepper flakes as a spice.

DRIED LEGUMES: The long period between lunch and dinner might cause low blood sugar and feeling tense and nervous. The dried legumes such as navy beans, chickpeas, and pinto beans that contain complex carbohydrates reduce your tension by keeping your blood sugar balanced for long periods.

DRIED NUTS: Dried nuts run to our rescue during the hours that our blood sugar level drops down and our feeling of hunger increases. They are healthy alternatives as afternoon snacks. Many of them help the release of serotonin hormone. They are also rich in vitamin E and magnesium.

DARK CHOCOLATE: Chocolate, which its happiness effect is well known, is among the foods that support stress management. Consumption of 20-30 grams of chocolate daily as an afternoon snack is suggested. You are going to feel happier and support your heart health by eating chocolate and releasing serotonin.

KIWI: We get toxins from many sources such as foods, beverages, air, and water. We need antioxidants to remove those toxins from our system. Vitamin C is the best one. Kiwi is among the foods that would detoxify your system and help you relax with its rich vitamin C, and low calorie, low sugar content.
