Taking Action Workshop, organized within the scope of Accessibility of Passenger Transportation Services in Turkey Project carried out under the responsibility of Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, was held in Ankara YHT Terminal with the participation of Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure M. Cahit Turhan and Director General of TCDD Ali İhsan Uygun.
Minister Turhan, in his speech at the workshop, noted that since 2003, revolutionary steps have been taken in the field of disability. Turhan explained that they have built platforms, ramps, special ticket offices, and help points for disabled people in order to make stations and terminal buildings suitable for the disabled and said, “In Marmaray and YHTs, appropriate designs have been implemented. We enabled our hearing impaired citizens who have smartphones or computers with cameras to receive services from TCDD via a link. A passenger with a disability rate of 40% and above is allowed to travel free of charge, and a severely disabled passenger with a disability rate of 50% or more and his/her companion can travel free of charge. Last year, 1 million 100 thousand disabled citizens traveled on YHT and main line regional trains.”
After the speeches, Turhan, who presented plaques to the contributors of the project, presented plaques and flowers to the swimming champion Sümeyye Boyacı, the disabled ballet dancer Mehmet Sefa Öztürk, the members of the Aşk Olsun Music Group, known as the musicians who do not recognize obstacles.
Minister Turhan also bid farewell to a group of disabled and elderly citizens for a day trip to Konya on a YHT.
