TCDD General Directorate of Transportation, which was established by the state as a railway train operator with the liberalization of railway transportation and has been operating since January 1, 2017, with its own resources and personnel, is now 4 years old.
The Company currently operates 631 passengers and 170 freight trains per day; 22 thousand passengers on high-speed trains, 49 thousand passengers on conventional trains, 420 thousand passengers on Marmaray, 40 thousand passengers on Başkentray; Marmaray transports 100,000 tons of cargo in a large geography extending from London to Beijing by Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line and Trans-Caspian International Transportation Route.
The company that aims to increase the number of YHT passengers to 30 thousand plans to put the new high-speed trains, being manufactured in Germany, the first of which was delivered in the last month, into service in phases in 2020. In order to meet the demand from Edirne to Kars, new trains are launched on different routes such as Touristic Eastern Express, Ankara Express, Bosphorus Express, and Lakes Express.
Supporting efforts to create national and domestic railway industries, the Company uses domestic production platform wagons for container transportation to Europe and Central Asia via BTK line; it aims for more efficient operation with its new generation hybrid engines that work with electricity and diesel fuel, providing 40% fuel efficiency.
Combining 163 years of Turkish railroad experience with the vision of “World brand”, the Company also guides private enterprises entering the sector with the liberalization of railway transportation.
