Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Mehmet Cahit Turhan said that the works at the İstanbul New Airport continued with speed, and the first phase of the airport will be opened on October 29.

Turhan explained that the first phase of the İstanbul New Airport that will be completed in 42 months will have 90 million passenger capacity, a potential of daily 3 thousand 500 landings and take-offs, 100 thousand square meters of indoor space, parking for 25 thousand vehicles, 42 kilometers of luggage belt system, 143 passenger bridges, 5.5 million tons of cargo capacity, 62 kilometers of security cordon and he also reported that this place will provide 73 billion Liras of economic contribution and employment opportunities for 225 thousand people.

Turhan said that the airport attracted the attention of the leading companies of the world and continued to his words, “The necessary adjustment to the related regulation was done to enable applications from the giant shipping companies to the General Directorate of the Civil Aviation to rent a place at the İstanbul New Airport which will be the largest of the world. The leading shipping companies like UPS, DHL, and FedEx have applied to rent space.”

Minister Turhan expressed that the air cargo transportation was evolving every day, and the city will be the center of cargo transportation besides the passenger transportation with the opening of the İstanbul New Airport.
