NORTH AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL AUTO SHOW THAT OPENED ITS DOORS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 1907 TURNED INTO A SHOW OF STRENGTH BY THE BRANDS THIS YEAR.
This year, the first meeting of the automotive world took place in America that is the homeland of automotive. North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) that opened its doors for the first time in 1907 became international in 1989. Over 100 new models, it’s a world launch for the most of them, introduced during this year’s show that contributes to the economy of Detroit. Approximately 5000 press members and 1 million visitors from around the world attended to the show. Another intention of the show was to deliver the message of ‘Detroit had escaped bankruptcy and gathered its strength back again’ to the world. From European brands to Chinese and from Koreans to Japanese, all of the world brands landed in Detroit.

AUDI Q7 GOES ON STAGE FOR THE FIRST TIME
One of the important new models that were showcased at the show was Audi Q7, which is also popular in our market. Q7, ‘the battleship’ of the brand in SUV class, took the stage for the first time with its new generation in Detroit. The new Q7, which is expected to be put on the Turkish market in the middle of this year, is different from its predecessor technically and visually. The new Q7 is 325 kg lighter than the previous version and it comes with second-generation entertainment platform as well as ‘Audi Virtual Cockpit’ system. Audi tablet and 3D Audio systems are among the some innovative equipment options.
SEDAN WITH THE LOOKS OF AN SUV FROM VOLVO
Cross Country Family that Volvo started to produce in 1997 evolved. The vehicle that was showcased in Detroit Show for the first time targets to combine a sedan and a crossover in the same body. Volvo S60 Cross Country that was one of the interesting new models of the show is going to bring together a sedan’s bodywork and a crossover’s utilization features. The vehicle that is 65 mm taller than the standard S60 is going to offer a four-wheel driving experience. A front-wheel drive version that is more affordable and has the same looks is also going to be in production. The vehicle comes in 190 hp D4 diesel and 250 hp T5 gas engine options. It is going to be put on the market this summer.
FROM VW EXCLUSIVE FOR AMERICAN MARKET
German maker Volkswagen introduced the five-seated SUV concept vehicle at the show for the first time. The production of the vehicle is expected to begin next year at the VW’s Chattanooga Tennessee factory. The sales figures of the vehicle is planned to be major. Introduced as four-wheel drive and plug-in hybrid, Cross Coupe GTE becomes prominent with its environmentalist features. The vehicle has five seats and VW is going to produce its seven-seat version. It is 4.84 meter long, 2.03 meter wide, and 1.75 meter high. Hybrid vehicle runs on 280 hp 3.6lt gas V6 engine, and 40 kw electric motor in front and 85 kw electric motor at back. The vehicle reaches to 360 hp when all engines work together. The fuel consumption is 3.36lt for 100km. The interior design is elegant and modern. High level of equipment of Cross Coupe GTE is going to impress its buyers.
MERCEDES SHOWCASED LUXURY
German maker Mercedes has given the signal to challenge its competitor BMW with GLT Coupe that was just introduced in Detroit. It is going to be available for purchase after the show. Mercedes GLE has a powerful engine and a high level of equipment. GLE uses the same platform with Mercedes M series and it is going to be manufactured in Tuscaloosa facilities of the company. The letter ‘E’ at the end of the new model’s name stands for E series. The vehicle comes in engines optioned between 258 and 367 hp and the highest option AMG comes with 3.0 lt 367 hp engine. Baggage capacity of the vehicle can be increased up to 1650 lt. The towage value that is important in the European markets is 3500 kg, which is the best in its class. The vehicle offers 9-speed transmission.
JAGUAR COULDN’T WAIT ANY LONGER
Jaguar that couldn’t ignore the growth in SUV markets has showcased its new SUV model named F-Pace in Detroit. The new SUV is going to be put on markets starting from next year. F-Pace that is going to compete with Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Mercedes-Benz GLK offers the largest interior capacity and the most dynamic driving experience in its class. This was stated by Jaguar’s spokespeople and they also remarked that the vehicle would have 5 seats. The new model is going to be introduced at the end of this year and is going to take place at the galleries next year.
PUREBRED SPORTS GT FROM FORD
Ford introduced its new vehicle GT that is going to compete with other sports cars in its class. Ford GT Concept has a body that is manufactured with the use of ultra light carbon materials and has a 600 hp V6 engine. It is purebred sports. Its manufacturing might start in 2016. Its engine is located in the middle of the vehicle just as it is supposed to be in a sports car. The vehicle offers rear-wheel driving experience with 7-speed dual clutch transmission. The weight of the vehicle is 1200 kg.
SANTA CRUZ CONCEPT FROM HYUNDAI
Hyundai introduced its new concept model Santa Cruz in Detroit. Santa Cruz that brings a new point of view to pick-up segment with its extraordinary design revealed Ford’s plans. Contrary to traditional pick-ups, Santa Cruz desires to steal the hearts of crossover vehicle enthusiasts with its athletic design and compact features. The vehicle offers 190 hp 2.0 lt diesel engine and four-wheel driving system.
