The legendary train Ankara Express has begun its Ankara-Halkalı-Ankara trips since July 5, 2019.
The express, which consists of 4 pullman cars, 4 sleeping cars, and 1 dining car, has the passenger capacity of 230 pullman and 80 sleeping. The express, the passenger capacity of which can be increased through additional pullman and sleeping cars depending on the demand, departs from Ankara and İstanbul (Halkalı) at 10 pm everyday. The trip time is approximately 9 hours and the train stops at Sincan, Polatlı, Eskişehir, Bozüyük, Bilecik, Arifiye, İzmit, Gebze, Pendik, Bostancı, Sögütlüçeşme, and Bakırköy stations.
Director General of TCDD Transportation Erol Arıkan stated that they continue to add new routes for the conventional trains that turn travel into pleasure such as the Eastern Express, Touristic Eastern Express, Lake Van Express, İzmir Mavi Train, and Sophia Train that are favored by the explorers and railway enthusiasts. Arıkan also stated that the Ankara Express, which was removed from service due to the construction of the Gebze-Köseköy high-speed rail line on February 1, 2012, has begun its new trips since July 5 and they were very glad and proud to see that the train reached to a full capacity on its first trip.
