Time to Speedgate

Time to Speedgate

The concept of artificial intelligence, which enters our lives via different applications in many areas ranging from voice recognition to image processing, natural language processing to reasoning, brings both social and business lives to a different level.

HR  departments of companies have accelerated the search for skilled employment for positions such as artificial intelligence architect, artificial intelligence product manager, data scientist, software engineer, and artificial intelligence ethics scientist. Artificial intelligence, which is used intensively in almost every area from health to automotive, from telecommunication to the entertainment sector, has also set hands to the sports sector. Speedgate is getting ready to become one of the favorite sports of the new generation.

The collaboration of artificial intelligence and sports

Artificial intelligence, which is used in many areas today, stands out also in the sports sector. Artificial intelligence applications used in the world of sports are divided into four main categories: chatbots, computer vision, automated journalism, and wearable technology. Sports teams and sports organizations use artificial intelligence assistants that produce answers to questions of fans on subjects such as live game information, team statistics, and arena (sports hall, stadium) logistics. Organizations use IoT (Internet of Things) devices to improve performance, taking advantage of athletes’ and teams’ data. The Sacramento Kings introduced a chatbot called KAI in partnership with Sapien, a custom bot developer (formerly known as JiffyBots) in June 2016. Chatbot answered the questions of basketball fans through the Facebook Messenger platform, including details of current team statistics, past or instant roster, NBA player score table, and details of Sacramento Kings’ own arena Golden 1 Center. The company called OpenAI started to work on creating a team of bots after getting great results from the bots created for one-on-one matches. Set aside the time and labor spent and algorithms written in the formation of a bot, getting five bots together to act as a team is a very different issue and a challenge.

Speedgate that analyzed 400 sports branches

With the ability to interact with many fans and create personalized experiences at the same time, chatbot technology continues to answer the questions of sports fans in different sports fields today. The company named Gosu.ai launched an artificial intelligence-assisted start-up and took the personal coaching practice in the e-sports world to a different point. Today, we are facing a new development that will guide the future of the sport. AKQA, a design and innovation company, used artificial intelligence to design a new sports branch. The data of 400 existing sports branches are used as training material for the artificial intelligence that constructed Speedgate. In this sports branch, designed by artificial intelligence and the rules of which were determined by artificial intelligence, two teams of 6 players are needed. Of course, there are different game rules for players. For example, the 3 defense players on your team are not allowed to cross the midfield before the center gate is unlocked. The game field is established with 3 gates. One of the gates is in the center. You need to pass the ball through the center gate before scoring a goal on the end gate. However, you should not enter the center gate while doing this. Otherwise, you make a foul. After unlocking, you can go to the end gate and score a goal.

A combination of rugby, quidditch, and lacross

Speedgate, played with a ball that resembles an American football, combines 3 sports branches that actively use hands and feet: rugby, quidditch, and lacrosse. Let’s remind that quidditch is actually a fictional sport mentioned in the books of J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter series. This sport has been popularized rapidly since 2005. Over 700 teams are playing it around the world. In Speedgate, when the ball is passed through the center gate, it is possible to score a goal on one of the end gates. Moreover, if the ball bounces off the center gate into an end gate, the team wins an extra point. Although you have the opportunity to pass the ball by hand, you have to score the goal by your feet. You earn 2 points as soon as you pass the ball through an end gate. However, if your team-mate standing behind the gate succeeds in kicking the ball back into the gate again, your score increases 3 points. Pushing, hitting or kicking in Speedgate is definitely foul. 2 referees conduct the 3 thirds of 7 minutes matches. The logo and slogan of Speedgate, which is “Face the ball to be the ball to be above the ball”, were also created by artificial intelligence. This situation shows us that artificial intelligence is developing more and more every day. If it continues to develop at this speed, many dreams related with artificial intelligence will become reality.
